FRANCESCO BAGNAIA: “Rispetto a prove libere e qualifiche siamo migliorati tanto. In Malesia dovremo stare subito lì davanti”.

THE SKY RACING TEAM SEES ITS FIGHT FOR THE PODIUM SPOILT AT PHILLIP ISLAND:
STELLAR RACE BY FENATI, KNOCKED OFF WITH TWO LAPS FROM FINISH
ROMANO, AFTER LEADING FOR 21 LAPS, CRASHES OUT AFTER A COLLISION WITH VAZQUEZ
ELEVENTH SPOT FOR BAGNAIA: GREAT TEAM EFFORT, THE WEEKEND-LONG DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME DURING THE RACE
Milan, October 19, 2014. Stellar race for Romano Fenati with the Sky Racing Team VR46, although it saw him crashing out because of a collision in the final laps after he had once again upheld Italy’s honor until the very end: for 21 laps he had been among the protagonists of a tight fight for the podium, then Efren Vazquez hitting him from behind knocked him off in corner 2 with just two laps from the finish. The rider No. 5 team cultivating the talent of young Italians was not only fighting for the podium but he was also relishing the arithmetic chance of having his say in the Moto 3 World Championship.
From far behind, also Francesco Bagnaia run a good race clinching a nice eleventh spot despite the set-up problems that had been hindering him all the weekend long. Another great team effort to overcome difficulties and aim straight to the target.
Sky-VR46 sports management: “Too bad for Romano because he was pulling off an awesome race. Unfortunately in Moto 3 at every turn there are five passes and it may happen. It’s a pity as Romano did a great job during the weekend, the bike was in top condition and so was him. There were the necessary conditions to achieve excellent results.
Pecco made a great performance, we are happy he was able to find a good setting this morning after he had been struggling all the weekend. Both him and his team worked hard”.
ROMANO FENATI in live exclusive to the microphones of Sky Sport MotoGP HD: “I was running a good race, for example, at turn one I was the one that had a little more guts to release the throttle. Then Vazquez hit me from behind, it may happen in races. Now we’ll see whether the competition judge will take any measure against him, races are good when they are hard-fought but dirty play may only be accepted at home when you are playing cards with your friends. Until that very moment everything was still at stake, the last of the group could become the first upon the first corner or the opposite. I was having great fun, there was a lot of overtaking. I was also trying to help Jack (Miller, editor’s note) to go forward so that he could slow down the race of Honda riders. He pulled off a great race, I congratulate him on his performance as he pushed very hard. In fact, if I had not crashed, I could have had my say”.
FRANCESCO BAGNAIA: “Compared with the free practice sessions and qualifying we improved so much. In the race I got it better, also by looking at the others, what were the points where I could improve. In particular, in the last lap I pushed really hard, running three-tenths faster than the leading pack. It was a very hard-fought race, there were some good passes, now we must keep going like this. In Malaysia, we will have to be in front right from the start”.
