ROMANO FIRMA IL QUINTO PODIO STAGIONALE E ROSICCHIA PUNTI A MILLER IN CLASSIFICA GENERALE

Milano, 10 agosto 2014. A Indianapolis sventola il tricolore sul secondo gradino del podio con Romano Fenati.

Il pilota dello Sky Racing Team VR46 è protagonista di una gara superlativa, lottando dal primo all’ultimo giro nel gruppo di testa e sfiorando il colpo grosso, superato dallo spagnolo Vazquez soltanto a pochi metri dal traguardo. Per Fenati si tratta del quinto podio stagionale, dopo i successi in Argentina, Spagna (Jerez) e Italia e il secondo posto ottenuto sempre negli States, ad Austin. Con questo risultato, Romano mantiene la quarta posizione in classifica generale avvicinandosi ulteriormente al leader del Mondiale Moto3 Jack Miller, che ha chiuso la gara terzo, alle sue spalle. Ora l’australiano è distante 28 punti.

Costretto al ritiro anticipato invece Francesco Bagnaia. Dopo un buon avvio di gara che lo aveva portato subito nelle prime posizioni, un lungo lo ha messo fuori dai giochi. Nonostante i tentativi di rimonta, Pecco si è poi dovuto arrendere anticipando il suo rientro ai box.

ROMANO FENATI

“Le Honda andavano più forte nel dritto e lì era importante per fare bene questa gara. Come ha detto Miller, il rettilineo era troppo lungo per noi, se il traguardo fosse stato un po’ prima sarebbe stato meglio, però sarebbe stato impossibile vincere con Vazquez così vicino all’ultima curva. Aveva una moto superiore nel dritto, andava il triplo. Sono però molto contento, ho trovato subito un buon feeling già dal venerdì con la moto e siamo tornati con lo stesso spirito che avevamo all’inizio del campionato, anche perché le ultime tre gare non erano state bellissime e tornare sul podio dopo la pausa era importante sia per me che per il team. Sarebbe stato meglio la prima posizione ma era quasi impossibile. Abbiamo recuperato punti in classifica, ci siamo avvicinati a Miller e Marquez, allontanati un po’ da Vazquez ma siamo tutti molto vicini”.

ROSSANO BRAZZI

“Questa è la posizione che merita Romano. Siamo stati sfortunati in Olanda e in Germania, se non fosse scivolato saremmo molto più avanti nella classifica del campionato, però purtroppo le gare sono così, noi ce la mettiamo sempre tutta e speriamo di rimontare. In questo momento non bisogna ragionare troppo sulle prossime gare, dobbiamo sempre spingere al massimo e poi vedremo alla fine dove saremo. Romano è stato sfortunato nelle gare in cui è scivolato, perché è uno che ci mette il cuore. Le sue gare sono tutte come quella di oggi, con sorpassi al limite, lui è uno che da’ sempre tutto e fa spettacolo. E’ veramente bravo”.

“Abbiamo cominciato la seconda parte della stagione con un podio, quindi molto bene. Siamo stati protagonisti per tutto il weekend, anche in gara Romano ha fatto un capolavoro, ha portato a casa il massimo che si potesse portare a casa. Un bravo a lui e un bravo anche a Pecco, che ha fatto il meglio che ha potuto, sia ieri che oggi. Un grosso complimento va a tutta la squadra che ha lavorato molto bene dal venerdì e ha dato una moto a Romano che gli ha permesso di giocarsi la vittoria fino agli ultimi metri”.

“Per cercare di stare tra i primi che stavano spingendo più forte di me, ho tirato di più la staccata e sono andato lungo. Poi non ho più trovato l’assetto della moto”.

Milan, August 10, 2014. The Indianapolis GP podium was flying the Italian flag as Romano Fenati clinched second spot. The pilot of the Sky Racing Team VR46 was the protagonist of a superb race, fighting from start to finish in the front running group, almost on the verge of hitting a masterstroke that he missed out a few meters from the finish only for the Spanish pilot Vazquez to secure maximum points. For Fenati this is the fifth podium of the season, after his successes in Argentina, Spain (Jerez) and Italy and the second place got in Austin, once again in the U.S. With this result, Romano holds the fourth position in the overall standings thus moving much closer to the Moto 3 World Championship leader Jack Miller, who finished third, behind him. Now the Australian is only 28 points away.

Francesco Bagnaia instead was forced to retire early. After a good start that had taken him in the first positions, he went wide on a curve that put him out of the running. Despite his several comeback attempts, Pecco had to surrender anticipating his return to the pits.

“The Honda bikes were pushing harder on the straight and that was key to pull off a good performance in this race. As Miller said, the straight stretch was too long for us, if the finish line had been nearer, it would have been better but in any case it would have been impossible to win with Vazquez so close in the last corner. His bike was much better on the straight, it was running three times as faster as ours. However, I am very happy, I found a good feeling with the bike since Friday and got away with the same spirit we had at the beginning of the season, also because the last three races were not that good and getting back on the podium after the break was important both for me and for the team. Of course the first position would have been better but it was almost impossible. We have moved up in the standings, shortening the distance from Miller and Marquez, and moving a bit away from Vazquez, but we are all very close”.

We were unlucky in the Netherlands and in Germany, if he had not crashed, we would have been much further ahead in the championship standings, but unfortunately the races are like that, we are always giving our all in the hope of coming back. Now we do not have to think too much of next races, we must continue to push hard and then we will see how far we will get. Romano was unlucky in the races where he crashed, because he has always given his best. His races are all like today’s, made up of breath-taking overtaking, he always gives his all and is always putting on a spectacular performance. He is really good”.
